“From Volunteer to Visionary!”

Correta Mkansi is a dedicated leader with a passion for making a difference in the lives of learners without access to quality education. She joined Teach the Nation in 2022 as an enthusiastic agent of change and choosing to volunteer for 2 years at a school in her village, in Limpopo, secured her place in the fellowship.

Struggling to find a remunerating teaching position, Correta was not deterred and completed her PGCE, passing with distinctions. As she continued to volunteer, she impacted the lives of her learners by inspiring them to see themselves as more than their circumstances. Being enthusiastic about science and realising that science at the school was not being prioritised, she started a science club where she challenged her learners to learn about apparatus and other science terminology while she tried to collect as much as she could to build up the science lab.

Through her efforts she managed to bring in organs for dissection when she could and made both physical and life sciences practical for her learners.
