In May 2021 it was confirmed that South Africa has the highest economic inequality in the world – making it the most unequal society
Out of 100 learners that start school, 50-60 will make it to Grade 12, 40-50 will finish high school, and only 14 will go to university

Our Goals in support of the education challenges
What we do | Fast Facts
We hand-pic highly qualified young leaders (22-35 years old) as Fellows.
We nurture and grow them to become Teach The Nation’s Champion Teachers.
We support them through coaching and skills development while they are placed in teaching posts. We build partnerships with our schools.
We enable our Fellows to influence their schools and communities as youth leaders.
In total, by the end of the 2022 academic year, we will have 227 fellows in schools (102 in their 2nd year and 125 in their 1st year).
Our Fellows teach in primary and high schools in high-need areas with average class sizes of 40 students per class.
By the end of 2022 we would have impacted 9 080 students/learners through our 227 Fellows in high-needs schools.
Our advanced Learning & Support:
We build our Fellows into leaders and train them in Professional Learning Communities (such as project-based learning, math, physical science, etc).
We coach and mentor our Fellows through transformational – and instructional – coaching (by permanently appointed and highly experienced coaches).
We also offer support by subject mentors (mostly part-time retired teachers) to improve teaching practices.
We offer a Teacher Professional Skills Development course called ProFuturo (meaning: for the future) which is facilitated by our Fellows and trains 1500 government teachers (with a reach of 62 000 students) for the 2021 academic year.
Our Fellowship Pedagogy
The overall goal of our Fellowship is to build the following objectives into Fellows which will support their journey of Champion Teaching in elements such as project-based learning, and eventually, Champion Coaching:
- Self and social awareness
- Self Mastery
- Communicating across barriers
- An asset-based approach to accelerate systems change in their schools and communities
- Systems thinking
- Servant leadership
Once placed, we, as Teach The Nation, provide teachers with the following pillars of support, at no cost, to the partner-school. (We are a fully funded programme):
- Annual Training Institute
- PGCE
- Dedicated personal and professional development Coaching: Quarterly Instructional Peer-learning communities
- Subject matter mentors
- Quarterly Transformational Workshops
